Which Brand Name Situation Are You In?

Amazon treats every one of these as a different case with a different route. Get the route wrong and Seller Support closes the case as a “rebranding request”, which Amazon does not allow. Find yours below.

Generic placeholder → your real brand

YOU ARE HERE IF

You launched under a generic or placeholder name and now you have a real brand and a trademark.

This is the cleanest version of a brand name change. Your listings carry a name that was never meant to be permanent, and the new name is properly registered. With the trademark and Brand Registry in order, the change moves through without touching your reviews, ranking or sales history.

NOTE :

  • Typical difficulty: low — when the trademark is in order
  • Reviews and BSR are not affected when it is staged correctly
01
Trademark Office declined your trademark → you need a new brand name

YOU ARE HERE IF

Your trademark was refused or abandoned, and now your listings are tied to a name you cannot register.

This is more than 70% of the cases we handle, and it is where most sellers get permanently stuck — because they attempt the name change before they have the one thing Amazon needs. The order matters: first file the trademark for the new brand and get the application number, then enrol the new brand in Brand Registry using that application number, and only then request the brand name change. Skip the first step and there is no route at all — Amazon has nothing to change the listings to.

NOTE :

  • This is the single most common reason a seller gets stuck
  • Sequence is everything: trademark application → Brand Registry → name change
02
Rebrand — an established brand changing to a new name

YOU ARE HERE IF

The business is healthy. You are modernising, rebranding, or you have acquired the brand and the name is changing.

Here the risk is not approval, it is everything you already own: reviews, Best Seller Rank, ranking history, Buy Box. A rebrand pushed through in one bulk action is how brands lose ranking overnight. We roll it out in stages — a pilot batch first, monitored, then controlled batches — so ranking and reviews carry across intact.

NOTE :

  • We run this staged, never as one bulk upload
  • Reviews, BSR and sales history stay with the listings
03
Someone hijacked your brand name on your own listings

YOU ARE HERE IF

Another seller has replaced your brand name on your listings with theirs, and Seller Support keeps rejecting your case.

A hijacker can use Amazon's catalogue system to overwrite the brand attribute on listings you own. When you report it, Seller Support frequently misreads it as you asking to rebrand — and denies it, over and over, no matter how many times you reopen the case. Standard Seller Support is the wrong door. These cases are resolved through Amazon's Catalog Integrity team and Brand Protection department, with the case built to prove it is a hijack rather than a rename request. We have restored 1,000+ listings this way.

NOTE :

  • This is where most agencies stop, because they do not know the escalation path exists
  • See the Medi-Aid case study below
04
The same brand across several marketplaces

YOU ARE HERE IF

You sell on Amazon.com, Amazon.de, Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.fr and the name has to change on all of them.

A brand name change on one marketplace does not carry over to the others. Each marketplace is its own process, its own documentation and its own timeline, and each is quoted separately. Germany usually moves quickly. The UK is generally slower than the US or Germany. We run them in parallel rather than one after another so the catalogue is not inconsistent across regions for months.

NOTE :

  • Each marketplace = separate engagement and separate pricing
  • Run in parallel, not sequentially

Can You Just Change the Brand Name in a Flat File?

No. Editing the brand attribute in a flat file is the most common way sellers get their case permanently blocked. Amazon locks the brand field on registered listings, and repeated attempts get logged against the account.

A real brand name change is a combination of flat file work, Brand Registry coordination and two separate Amazon verification checks — and in hijack cases, an escalation to teams that Seller Support will not route you to on their own.

WHAT THE PROCESS ACTUALLY CONSISTS OF :

  • Flat file updates prepared and submitted in the right sequence
  • Brand Registry coordination for the new brand
  • Two Amazon verification checks, each with its own evidence requirement
  • In hijack cases: escalation to Catalog Integrity and Brand Protection
  • Staged rollout so ranking and reviews are protected as the change lands

What Amazon requires ?

  • A trademark registration number — or the application number if the trademark is still pending
  • Brand Registry enrolment for the new brand name
  • Real product images showing the new brand name printed on the actual packaging, with the UPC/GTIN barcode visible

What we need from you ?

We do not ask for your Seller Central login and we do not need full account access. We work on specific user permissions only:

  • Brand Management
  • Inventory Manager
  • Cases
  • Account Health
  • Flat Files

How Long Does an Amazon Brand Name Change Take ?

On Amazon.com, typically 2–3 weeks. Germany runs at a similar speed. The UK is generally slower. Amazon controls the actual processing time — anyone promising an exact date is guessing.

Will I Lose My Reviews or Ranking?

Not when it is staged properly. Every case we have completed has kept 100% of its reviews — including a 30+ ASIN catalogue with listings carrying 563, 252, 220 and 188 reviews.

Reviews and Best Seller Rank sit with the listing, not the brand name, so a correctly executed change does not reset them. What does cause damage is a bulk change pushed through in one action across a whole catalogue. That is why every case above 10 ASINs is rolled out in stages.

What Happens to My FBA Inventory During the Change ?

Nothing. Your stock stays in Amazon’s warehouses, your listings stay active, and you keep selling throughout the process.

The one thing you do have to prepare is packaging: Amazon requires real product images showing the new brand name on the physical packaging with the barcode visible. We tell you exactly what those images need to show before you shoot them.

The only public money-back guarantee on Amazon brand name change

We are the only agency publishing a full refund guarantee on this service. If we cannot complete your brand name change, you do not pay for it. We can offer that because we have done this 5,000+ times, and we know before we start whether a case is winnable — and we will tell you if it is not.

Why Sellers Come to Us for This Specifically ?

  • Volume — 5,000+ listings updated. Most agencies have done a few dozen.
  • Hijack specialisation — we use the Catalog Integrity escalation path that most agencies do not know exists. 1,000+ listings recovered.
  • Review retention — 100% across every completed case.
  • Multi-market — US, UK and Germany run correctly under one team, not outsourced per country.
  • Refund guarantee — publicly stated, not buried in terms.
  • Packaging image guidance — we tell you exactly what Amazon needs to see, which is where most self-managed attempts collapse.

FAQ's

Frequently Asked Questions

You need either a registered trademark or a pending trademark application number. With a pending application you can enrol the new brand in Brand Registry and proceed. With nothing filed at all, there is no route — the new brand does not exist as far as Amazon is concerned.

Usually, yes. A rejection almost always means the case went through the wrong channel or the evidence did not match what that channel needed — not that the change is impossible. The majority of cases that come to us have already been rejected at least once.

That response usually means your case has been misclassified. It is common with brand hijacks, where the legitimate owner reporting the theft is read as someone asking to rename their products. The fix is not to reopen the same case again — it is to escalate to Catalog Integrity and Brand Protection with the case framed as a hijack, with evidence of ownership.

Typically 2–3 weeks on Amazon.com and similar in Germany. The UK is slower. Complex catalogues and hijack restorations take longer because they are staged and escalated. Our fastest completed case was 10 days; a 30+ ASIN catalogue took 40 days.

No. Every case we have completed has kept 100% of its reviews. Reviews sit with the listing rather than the brand name, so a correctly staged change does not disturb them.

No, and attempting it is the most common way sellers make their case harder. Amazon locks the brand field on registered listings, and repeated failed attempts are logged against the account.

No. Each marketplace is a separate process with its own documentation and timeline. A change on Amazon.com does not carry over to Amazon.de or Amazon.co.uk.

No. Your inventory stays in Amazon's warehouses and your listings stay live and selling. You will need to supply product images showing the new brand name on the packaging with the barcode visible.

Specific user permissions only — Brand Management, Inventory Manager, Cases, Account Health and Flat Files. We never ask for your login and we do not need full account access.

$1,000 for 1–10 listings on a single marketplace. Larger catalogues and hijack cases are quoted individually. If we cannot complete the change, you receive a full refund.
